Georgios M. Rokas, CEO of R Energy1 Holdings, at the 1st Aristotelis Climate Forum: “The Transition to Renewable Energy Sources is Not Only Economically Viable but Also Strategically Necessary”
Athens, November 22, 2024 – Georgios M. Rokas, Chairman and CEO of R Energy1 Holdings, participated as a speaker at the inaugural “Aristotelis Climate Forum” on Circular and Sustainable Economy, held on November 22 in Athens.
In his speech, Mr. Rokas highlighted the importance of renewable energy sources (RES) in addressing the climate crisis and energy security, stating, “In Greece, 55% of energy is already generated from RES, and the country aims to exceed 80% in the near future, simultaneously enhancing energy storage infrastructure, such as batteries, which are critical for grid stability and the efficient use of renewable resources.”
Mr. Rokas emphasized the country’s energy autonomy, which has mitigated the impacts of the energy crisis caused by the war in Ukraine, and pointed out the economic benefits of RES, as they contribute to reducing energy costs for consumers and businesses. “In Greece, accelerating RES development is already enhancing energy security by reducing reliance on international natural gas markets and strengthening the country’s position as a regional energy hub,” he stated.
He also stressed the need for greater social acceptance of RES projects, underlining that communication and engagement with local communities are crucial to overcoming opposition. In conclusion, Mr. Rokas affirmed that the transition to RES is vital for both the economy and the environment, and that collaboration between the state and businesses is essential for its success.
